Process Control Modeling and Simulation

The purpose of this project is to model a feedback control loop for the reaction between ammonium chloride solution and the alkene products of a cyclopropanation reaction, as described in Patent US 10,584,080 B2¹.  The reaction being modeled is the second reaction step in the process of creating a molecule that International Flavors and Fragrances Inc. uses for their sandalwood scents and flavors.  In modeling this step of the process, the group plans to optimize the reactor temperature and the product concentration.  This optimization will be achieved by manipulating the flow rate of an inlet stream and adjusting the flow rate of coolant into the heat exchanger.  Using the temperature and product concentration as controlled variables will help better determine the conversion of reactants and monitor the reaction rate.
