Piezoelectric Autocorrecting Laminate for Protective Gear Application

Designed a Piezocomposite Laminate system that can adjust and correct for strain damage created by applied forces. During this independent project, a methodology was discovered to compare piezoelectric properties to thermal expansion properties and then related to laminate deformation on a scale of 6 or more plies. From this, three solutions were discovered based on how frequent the interdigitated electrodes are receiving data from the deformed laminate. This solution can negate the strain differential created through piezoelectric deformation. MatLab and intense academic research were employed to come to a plausible solution, and this paper is published in the 2022 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition.
